…It’s only some paperwork, I can use my home shredder!
Well, you could, but if it has any sensitive information printed on the paper, such as your bank details, address, and any other personally identifiable information, then most home shredders will be unlikely to cross-shred the information to an acceptable security level.
So, if someone REALLY wanted to, they could easily piece together the paper and make out the confidential information. This has been done, and scammers are always on the look out for ‘easy pickings.’ You really don’t want to be on the end of identity theft.
Also, who has the time these days to hand-feed multiple pages into a shredder? which, inevitably jams up on more than a sheet of paper and gives up the ghost when it comes to a staple or even worse a missed paper clip.
For the time and effort, it takes, you might as well have put the paper into a secure bag, called S4B to collect it or popped it into our offices and saved yourself a whole lot of hassle for the sake of a few quid.
…the content of the paperwork is so old and out of date, it won’t hurt if I just put it in my recycling bin at home!
Sorry, (see our above point) but ‘out of date paperwork won’t come to any harm’ that is a misnomer, if you have ANY data bearing paperwork, under GDPR you need to dispose of it securely, so shredding it to avoid it getting into the wrong hands, particularly if it is from within a line of business then you need to ensure it is disposed of properly.
…I can just burn it!’
Really? It’s 2022 and climate change is at the forefront of peoples’ minds. Okay, so, what to you is ‘just a little bonfire’ has greater effects on the environment, quite aside from the potential risk in the recent unprecedented heat, and dry land matter, you could cause a dramatic fire. If everyone had that same mentality and did it, there would be widespread uproar. It’s much better to have it shredded and save the environment. On the plus side you can get a warm fuzzy feeling that once your paperwork is securely shredded, it goes on to be recycled into paper. So, by doing this, you are helping to save the planet!
…I can just get a skip and throw all my redundant IT in there and be done with it!
Hold that thought! It might be cathartic to sling your IT into a skip (particularly if it had slowed to snails pace and become the bane of your working life) But before you try your best ‘cricketers overarm’ of your tower with gay abandon, check first that you have removed the hard drive. This pesky little item housed within the depths of your PC holds everything you have ever done on your computer. Yes, even if you thought you had deleted those files….it is still sitting there waiting to be unearthed by a technical whizz kid.
To make 100% sure that this won’t happen we can shred your hard drives, and any data bearing items, even videos, dvd’s, tapes, records etc and render them useless. With the rest of your IT we operate a downstream recycling scheme to separate each of the component parts which are ultimately reused as something else.
S4B are an accredited, professional business that takes the environment, recycling and compliance very seriously you can check out our credentials here.
